Soda Bread

I love recipes on tattered old notecards. I make this soda bread every year for Saint Patrick’s Day - I’m mostly Irish, and my Irish grandpa’s birthday was March 12 so it was always celebrated with corned beef and cabbage, and green icing on the cake. I love continuing some family recipes and traditions. I’ve made this with regular flour, spelt flour, oat flour, and now our GF flour blend - they all produce a lovely loaf!

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350º.

  2. Mix dry ingredients together.

  3. In a separate bowl, beat eggs.

  4. Then, add buttermilk and melted butter to the eggs.

  5. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix together quickly.

  6. Bake on a sheet pan, in a cast iron pan, or whatever you have for 50 minutes until the crust is nice and brown.

  7. Let cool a little before slicing off a piece and slathering with some European-style butter. Enjoy!!
